The Hunger Games Blog 8

I know that many people already read the series, but I haven't read the first book but seen the third movie. Katiness Everdeen is living in a world where everyone is separated into 12 district. Katiness is in the 12th district. All are in different situations, for example the best districts are 1 and 2 and the worst or most struggling is 12. This proves that Katiness has to participate in the Hunger Games to represent the worst of the worst. The Hunger Games are set every year and two members of each district ( male and female ) are chosen by random to participate in the Hunger Games. Katiness is one of those participates. This proves that Katiness is dealing with the Games.

Katiness is a character with a special iner meaning. She is the type of person that could advocate herself or others to try their hardest. In the story it states that " I'm the one, there all rooting for me cause they know that I'm the best chance of winning this." This proves that Katiness is setting a good example to everyone in district 12 to give hope in her. Also that Katiness is the type of person that would back you up or act like a bodyguard. In the story it states that  she said the famous words when her sister got called " I volunteer as tribute!" This proves should would do anything to protect her sister.

Fosters War Blog 7

The war is still going on in America and Foster is still trying to find a way to help in the war. In the story it states that " Son, what are you doing? Im trying to find the perfect job in the war?" This proves that Foster is still trying to find out what is important to the war and himself. Also that Foster is keep getting rejected by other Military camps because he's to young to join the army. In the story it states that " Are you crazy enough to get killed in the war son? Yes. Well I can't let you in." This proves that Foster is getting rejected by the Military.

Foster wants to know if he can help support the military or help out in some way in the war. In the story it states that " I think I might make my own poster involving the war? Maybe I should spread rumors about the war." This proves that Foster is trying to find out a way to help out in his commitment. Also that Foster is still looking at the poster and trying to find a way to make his own poster. This proves that Foster is still helping in his role in the war.

Foster's War Blog 6

During the World War 2 era, a lot of propaganda were talking place. A piece of art can determine the faith the person has. Meet Foster, a well behaved kid that wants to know what's going on in the war. His father in the other hand does not support the war in Europe or the Pacific. Foster is interested in a poster in his living room that says "Wings Over America" that same picture is in the cover of the book. Foster sister Evelyn is worried for Foster that if he gets into trouble it's her fault and she must take actions into her own self. Now Foster wants to be in the war but awaits him should never leave him.

Foster is the type of kid that if you catch something out the corner of your eye, you must know what it is. In the story Foster is surprised of the propaganda poster from the war. This proves that the entire story is based on what Foster say that made him pay attention to it. Also he knows what might happen to him if Foster decide to help in the war of 1942.

Lighting Their Fires Blog 5

Lighting Their Fire is about how children can change the world in the snap of a finger. The story is based on a real life story by author Rafe Esquith of how children can make a difference in this world. One story is about a girl name Toni that lived near the worst parts of Europe were there was a lot of poverty living all around her. Once she got her education she stepped up her role to become a successful company to help donate cows or livestock to families living under the poverty line.

The book is not 100% true, but some stories where based on stories of young children trying to make a difference in this world. Many of these children mostly grew up in hard living conditions like living in poverty or living in their streets of one of the worst living cities in the world. Most of these children know whats going on in there community and they want to make a difference.

Dead End In Norvelt Blog 4

The main character Jack Gantos is a refection of myself as a child. As a misbehave character at the wrong time and the wrong place, it reminds of my self as a child. For being grounded for an entire summer, is pretty remarkable to do such a thing. In the text it states that " I'm here in the middle of nowhere wasting my summer because I got grounded for doing the wrong actions" Therefore Jack regrets getting grounded and wasting his whole summer. I've never gotten in trouble that my punishment would last through the ENTIRE summer. I know what he did is wrong but I think that the punishment is wrong and needs to be reduced by his parents.

After being sent to Military camp for boys for the whole summer. Now Jack has now to face other boys whole did much worse actions did Jack has done. It's now the "Survival of the Fittest" as Jack recall after the first couple of days of the camp. Now Jack has to face 2 1/2 more months of this camp until he gets released and begin school again. Jack recalls being in the camp "horrendous, a jungle, and a prison for young men." Maybe this would not happen if Jack did that one thing that lead up to all of this. Being in Military camp, Jack needs to learn new rules. Jack feels like he's being watched (24/7). If any move Jack does, the guards are on him. This proves his problem at Military camp.

American Indian Struggle

American Indians have been marginalized in society for centuries of time. Explorers have killed and conquered land from the American Indians. In the article it states that "By 1879, settlers and the U.S. Army had forced most tribes off their lands, and (white man) diseases had devastated the native population." Therefore, American Indians have been kicked off from there own land since explores came. Also American Indians have been killed or trying to kill the Indian of the person. In the article it states that "Pratt also planned to (civilize) them-to strip them of their traditions and ways of life. Pratt believed that the children needed to completely abandon their (Indian-ness) in order to succeed in America. This proves how American Indians were being brainwash and trying to get rid of their religion. "Kill the Indian, save the man," was Pratt's saying

Luther Standing Bear and Shanice Britton were both American Indians who had both similarities and differences. Both Luther and Shanice lived in the West part of the United States. In the article it talks about how many American Indians use to live in the West and today many still live in the Western part of the US. This proves that both people lived in the same area of land in the US. Shanice lived through a period were the government protected their land and gave American Indians acres of land to them. Ironically Luther Standing Bear was one of the people to drive the US government to help and protect Native Americans. This proves how society has respected their culture now than back in history.

Dead End Blog 3

"Dead End in Norvelt" is a story written by author Jack Gantos and also is the main character of the story. A kid has his excitement for summer has gotten him into a lot of trouble. On my page 32 it states that " one day I was on the verge of summer. The next thing I know, I'm grounded for the whole summer!" This proves that the childish act of Jack has gotten him in trouble. Also his family is going on vacation without him cause he's grounded. This reminds me a lot of a Home Alone style of plot but who knows what's going to happen next in the story. This proves that Jack might be going on with something.

Jack Gantos is the kind of my person that he's smart, but makes terrible decisions. The only thing that is stoping Jack from summer vacation is his actions that he did. He also seems that Jack would be a great person if it wasn't for his poorly made decisions. This proves that his actions can pay the price. He has to pay up with community service and taking care of the house while his family is on vacation. This proves what he is doing while being grounded.

Final "SLAM" Blog 2

Slam is in his final game of High School basketball. The State Finals, it's Slam's senior year and his future is waiting upon him on this very game. Slam's mind is set on game time. It's "Go big or go home" as Slam himself stated the day before the game. The ball is tipped and game as begun. Immediately Slam hits a couple quick shots and "buckets" said Slam as soon he made the shot. Slam needs to win this game to set his reputation to his dream to be in the NBA. Two minutes left of the game, it's tied 68 - 68. Slam's team has the poisson of the ball. Coach trust Slam to hit the final second shot. The refs blow the whistle, Slam gets the ball. "Bang!" It makes it in Slam was won the State title. Now it's the time for Grieg "Slam" Harris to start his destiny in college.

I've been in Slam's situation before. I know the pressure to take control of a team and drive it to win the game. On page 245 it states that " All the pressure is on me, people are looking at me that I win for my school. I need to win this game to set his reputation to his dream to be in the NBA." This proves the pressure Slam was going through in his head. The ball is tipped and game as begun. Immediately Slam hits a couple quick shots and "buckets" said Slam as soon he made the shot. Slam is in his final game of High School basketball. The State Finals, it's Slam's senior year and his future is waiting upon him on this very game. Slam's mind is set on game time.

Tolerance

Tolerance - the ability or willingness to allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of something in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.

I remember that had a family member who was so in tolerant, that most of the time he talks about black people. My cousin lives in a highly populated white community, that he only sees black people in the streets or people like to call it the "hood". Once  I got so mad at the things he was saying. For example "If I ever see a n*****, ever again? I'm gonna treat them as my slave." I got so offended that I punched him right in the nose and was bleeding from his nose and went to the hospital. Ironically the doctor that helped my cousin was African American. So all the time he was being races against African American people, he'd paid the price.

Invisible Man

At the beginning of Middle School, all of my friends from Piper were in 6A and I was in 6B. I was the only kid from Piper and I had to make new friends quickly. For the first few days I felt invisible because I was too shy to talk to new people. Fortunately, the next day I was able to talk to people from other schools and made new friends. Those people who talked to me are still my friends to this day. It turned my confidence around, that I am able to talk to anyone without having the feeling to be shy. I was able to over come my fear of talking to other people. Quickly I started to gain new friends and help me to become the person I am today.

SLAM Blog 1

Summary

Slam (by Walter Dean Myers) is about a story about a teenager named Greg "Slam" Harris. His colleague describe Slam as "a player who could be the lucky ones and make it to the NBA." But there is one little problem about Greg, his grades are hysterical, (really really bad) he would cheat on test's and also lie of not cheating. He's in a relationship with a girl name Mtisha. Slam thinks that he might marry this girl and go to the NBA at the same time. On page 156 it states that " I hope me and Mtisha would go to the next level and hopefully be together for a long time." This proves that Slam is certain to have a long lasting relationship with Mtisha. Slam also believes that his team would be able to make it to State Finals with his lead. I know this from page 167 it states that " Based on our performance, we should win it all. With my lead of course." This proves that Slam is confident enough to win State Finals.

Character Analysis

I think that Slam is a person just chasing his dream to become an NBA player. One of things is that he likes to think he's better than anyone else. On page 146 it states that "Do you mean that kid from Wesley High? He's not that very good, I'm way better than that kid." This proves that Slam knows that he want's to be the best and act like the best. Also that he wants to make it all and also having Mtisha having her with him. On page 186 it states that "Once I make into the NBA, I'll ask Mtisha to marry me and have kids together will I'm famous." This proves that Slam wants Mtisha to be in Slam side the whole time. I believe that Slam is character that is just chasing there dream.

Piratica II Blog 8

Tough Questions

Finally, after an argument with the other pirates, Piratica is finally allowed to the ship in search of Parrot Island. This keeps me thinking, why does Piratica wants be a pirate so badly; that she would risk her life to find the Island. I know this on page 128 that Piratica always dreamed of going in adventures to find treasures. This proves that Piratica always like going on adventures. But, Piratica really never told anyone the real answer to go back to Parrot Island. I know this on page 136 it shows that the only reason to get in was to lie and never talk about the real truth. This proves that Piratica is no telling us anything about the real reason shes going to Parrot Island.

Reflection

After the pirates finally think about letting a girl join the crew, they finally reached a deal to let Piratica in the ship in search of Parrot Island. Now the pirates and Piratica are setting sails to the sea. After a day or two the crew and Piratica start to realize that waters are starting to get rougher. The wind starts to blow rapidly and dark cloud are forming rapidly. A storm is coming yelled Piratica, but the crew won't pay attention to the only girl in the crew. Than thunder popped. What will happen to the crew and Pirtacia?

Piratica II Blog 7

Plot Analysis

Piractica is about a young girl that is on a pirate adventure to Parrot Island. The one problem is that other pirates keep telling her that she is not tough enough to join a ship. On page 52 it states that "All the other pirates keep looking at me, like I shouldn't be her. Or maybe I should be serving them booze or food." This proves that the other pirates don't want a girl to join their ship. Also, the pirates think that it would be silly for a girl to go on a dangerous adventure to Parrot Island. On page 76 it states that "What a silly girl she his. Thinking about joining us to sea, Argh!" This proves that the pirates don't think that Piractica is tough enough to join the pirates ship.

Summary

So far, Piractica wants to go on adventure to find the legendary Parrot Island. But there is one problem, she won't get allowed to join a pirate ship. On page 45 it states that "It was always Piractica dream to find Parrot Island and explore it. But none of the pirates would accept her to join the ship." This proves that Non of the other pirates would want to go with Piratica to find Parrot Island. Next, Piratica is too young to join a ship and set to the seas. It states that " Since Piratica was 5 she wanted to explore. 9 years later shes seeking to join other pirates to find Parrot Island." This proves she was sure enough to explore to Parrot Island.

Rash Blog 6

Connections

Bo and Karlohs are deep in the woods and breaking the law. They are meeting up with a couple of friends and playing an illegal sport known as American Football. I can relate to this when I was younger I would be deep in the woods and play football with my cousins. But the different thing was that football was still legal at the time. Past forward 63 years, football is a banned sport. It states on page 197 that football was to ban from all over the world. But when I was little me and my cousins were caught by state police and got in trouble, well I didn't. But in the story Bo and Karlohs get caught and gets sent to prison.

Conflict

Bo and Karlohs get caught!!!! They are no sent to prison for a good year or pay 2,000 in cash to get out. The laws would always messed them up and also Bo did see a rare bear in the woods and that made them eventually getting caught by the law. This has been the main problem for the whole story was breaking the law and eventually getting caught. It states from the whole book of laws that was passed. For example they banned tattoos in the 1930's and ban position of weapons in1932. In the the book the world has gotten stricter and stricter as the years go by.

Rash Blog 5

Conflict

During the year 2070, Bo is considering ditching school for the day and playing football deep in the woods. But the thing that is stoping him is all the laws that was passed down decades ago. On page 129 it said that " Me and Karlohs are think about playing football deep in the woods." This proves that Bo would do anything to play an illegal sport just for the fun of it. Except the government is fencing all woods so they won't do anything illegal there. On page 145 it says "The government has gotten more and more strict as the years go by." This shows that the government is getting more stricter and reducing there freedom.

Summary

Bo and Karlohs are looking for other people who are willing to play football with them. Since it's an illegal sport in Canada, they have to be slick of what they do. Karlohs knows an abounded football field that is south where they live at.  On page 157 it says that "The Coke plant was located near a small town called Amery, about six hours to the south. They are referring too the football field that was abounded near the abounded Coke plant that was out lawed 7 years ago.

Rash Blog 1

Character Analysis:

The main character in Rah is named Bo Marsten. Bo lives in the decade of 2070's. Bo is a high schooler living in Toronto, Canada. Based on his character he sounds like how a teenager would act in the future and now.  On page 13 it would state that he would go on into the forest and look for bears and won't listen to his parents. It proves that todays teenagers wouldn't listen to their parents and go off on there own. Bo also likes to hangout in his own little clique. In the book it states that his friends were Karlohs, Matt, and Ron. Does are the only friends Bo likes to hangout with and not other cliques. This shows that Bo acts how teenagers act today.

Memory Moment:

Bo is living in year 2070. He keeps getting flash backs a decade ago early on in the book. On page 20 it states that in the past the world has gotten more stricter and stricter has the years goes on. It talks about how in the year 2035 the president sign a bill to forbidden body piercing and tattoos as stated on page 19. Bo is living in a world that it's strict and he can't nothing about it. It affects him of whats illegal and whats not. On page 23 talks about how he wants join a soccer team, but its illegal in the world as the government says its a "evil game". This proves how his childhood was.

American Sniper Final Blog 3

Tough Questions

Chris Kyle was always in the battle zone no matter what the enemy had to give him. On page 412, it stated that "the enemy already put a bounty on my head, cause I was that dangerous." It caught into my head that he knows he's a bounty, so why not give all he's got and not stay far back. It also stated that " I was never afraid of the enemy, I just see them and shoot them. That's what I was trained for." So, why is he falling back if he knows he has the firepower to hit the enemy back.

A-HA Moment
During the chapter 34 and 36, it talks about memories of his wedding. But the problem is, it distracts him and not pay attention to the battlefront. He's trained to set his mind and shoot the enemy. It stated on page 395 that " Thinking about my wedding, takes me out of the battlefront and go into my daydreaming." It proves that even the most lethal sniper can get of task.

American Sniper Blog 2

Summary

A lot of stuff has been going for Chris Kyle and the Seals. Its 2005 now in the timeline, Chris Kyle wrote. The enemy has already placed a bounty for Chris Kyle for his lethal shots against the enemy. He's experience what a SEAL is and how they hunt the enemy. Chris Kyle states that "Now the enemy were coming for me, not the Marines. They knew I was lethal enough that I could take out 2 people with one shot." Now Chris and his Wife are starting a family before he left to war in 1999. One moment that Chris was facing the face of death when his wife told him it was going to be a boy. Later shots fire at the squadron that he was looking after and later died cause Chris wasn't paying attention and letted 6 soldiers that day. Now Chris needs to control his temper and keep calm. Or maybe face death agin and let more soldiers die.

Theme

I think what Chris Kyle is trying to say is that "You need to take chances and become who you want to be." At Chris wanted to become a cowboy growing up, later wanted to be a soldier. What inspire him was Gulf War and Vietnam. Chris choose who he wanted to be, no one stop him and became one of the most lethal sniper in U.S history. Chris Kyle also wanted people to do there own stuff and believe what you believe in. He has faced hatred by plenty of people, there telling him his killing people cause he wanted to. But Chris carried along and ignore.

American Sniper Blog 1

Connections

So far, in American Sniper aka the Life of Chris Kyle. The most lethal Sniper in US. history, during the Iraq War in 2003 to 2009. I always wondered how was a soldiers lifestyle during the Iraq war. As of January 11th 2015, it has become a major motion movie. So I decided to read the book of Chris Kyle. In one of the pages on 5 it said that " It was my duty to shoot, and I don't regret it." I always wanted to join some branch of the military when I grow up. But my parents and my uncles told me that I will regret it when I "shoot someone" Chris Kyle (author) has been faced with hate but he ignores it from the media. At first he didn't regret it joining the Navy then, later becoming a SEAL (Sea Air and Land). But he facing a whole different army that he will ever expect. If I join the military, I don't know what will come into my face.

Plot Analysis

In the beginning of the story we see Chris Kyle in a abounded building looking throughout the entire street. He's guarding the Marines down to Bagdad, Iraq. Until he sees this woman holding an object, turns out it was a Chinese hand grenade. Now he is putting a squad of Marines life at risk. He has no other choice, either to shoot the woman or loose American lives. Can't take the risk "BANG!' the woman is down on the ground. I believe that Chris Kyle will see similar things like this again in the near future. He has to test himself either " To kill or be killed. " He is responsible to look at squads patrolling the street and make sure there isn't any enemies or suicide bombers. I believe that he's going let a squadron (group of soldiers) die or maybe kill an innocent bystander on the street.

Academic Goal and Personal Goals

As the new year comes in, new goals are presented to me. Getting better in Math as such as Geometry, Probability, and graphs. In the beginning of the year, I started in a slow start not having honors and mostly cause of math. My teacher recommended me staying after school or stay during lunch. I have not taking that responsibility to myself and helping me for the greater good. My mom always tells me to get help but, I keep telling her I'm doing well in Math. The second quarter I've gotten better but I still need to improve. Now in quarter 3 I'm taking my actions for myself and my skills in math. I go to a teacher if I need help or not understanding something. I'm doing this action to myself and my family as they have high expectations for me and my future.

Try to talk to new people in my grade and my age.  I don't really interact with other people besides the people I like. But I need to get out of my shell and try to meet people. I know that some people I don't need to talk to cause I think they cause trouble. But getting to know people could distract my education or mess up my athletic skills. By meeting new people, we could learn that we may have the same thing in common.  Or maybe taking to the same person but maybe get to know people more. By doing this I could improve my social skills and feel comfortable talking to people
